Technology (Cat's Point of View)

So, what is technology from a cat's point of view? Cats require water and deserve the kitty drinking fountains that keeps their water filtered, bubbly and fresh. Speaking of fresh, they also need to have a clean litter box.Can you believe this must-have model? It even has a ramp for easy access and the wiping of delicate paws. Love it! Love it! Love it! If something new comes out five minutes from now, I will also require, deserve, need, and must-have that.

ALA Wiki

Wikis tied to conferences are a good idea. You can share information that will be useful in planning future meetings, help participants get the most from the conference and simplify getting feedback from attendees. With time, new questions and comments will arise and the Wiki will work its magic.

Wiki Wiki

I added a movie title to Sandbox and tried to add my favorite restaurant but was unsuccessful. Another blogger was editing the restaurant list (in excess of five minutes) and I could not get in. I know, I will put the info here. I love Lupe Tortilla http://www.lupetortilla.com/. Be sure to try the Green Enchiladas. Muy Bueno!!!

Del.icio.us

I did search del.icio.us. I tried an IRS search and found that the information presented was not as helpful or to the point as the actual irs.gov. It may take a little time to be able to train myself to get the most from this tool. I did a search on cat health and got a lot of entertaining articles about cats, dogs, kittens, and pet foods, allergies, etc. 1,448 articles in all. "Feline heart disease" rendered six articles about the most common heart disease "cardiomyopathy" or "HCM." This tool is as good as the users ability to define and limit their search. I don't like the layout--presentation is definitely on the weak side.

Looking at Technorati

advanced search=6,824

No, I was not surprised by the popular blogs. Different strokes for different folks. Current events (San diego fire & Ron Paul), topical issues (environment & education), foreign language blogs (got me!) and some blogs that I dare not touch.

To more powerful ways to cooperate

"This of course is just a beginning; over the next year we are planning to offer a variety of “social” services to allow non-cataloging library professionals, library patrons and others to contribute to and use WorldCat. Services under consideration include tagging, list creation and sharing, citation management, personal cataloging, and the like."

This should be interesting. It reminds me of the 0ld "Thriving on Chaos" theory. The real challenge will be in deciding what to include and what to exclude. Trial and error may be too slow a vehicle to allow any kind of innovation.
into a new world of librarianship
Michael Stephens Librarian, Blogger

Are we Techno-worshipping? I am still waiting for just one of our customers to ask me how to set up a blog. We have a lot of people blogging--many are blogging their brains out. Bloggers seem to be born with the blog gene. Our customers are asking questions about the use of Word and Excel but not blogging. Are we preparing for the next wave?

"This librarian will help users become their own programming director for all of the content available to them." Why do I feel inadequate to serve as anyone's programming director?
